Artifacts Museum- Flint : Late Archaic

The Late Archaic Period ( as it exists in Missouri ) is generally excepted to be between 4,000 B.P. - 3,000 B.P. The defining change from Mid to Late Archaic would be the invention of pottery vessels. Some of the earliest evidence of Agriculture comes to light in this period. Squash (Cucurbita pepo) and bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) were grown and harvested in this period. Another hallmark of this period was the development of large village sites and elaborate burial rituals.
